The center piece for part 4 of The Indigo Keys: Flight of the Phoenix, Key 13 is for those who are serious about making lasting changes and allowing full transformation. The Phoenix is a divine creature who rises from ashes, burning in the cosmic fire which purifies all. Associated with Scorpio, this one is about attuning to the deeper levels fully and fearlessly. It also enables the ability to truly let go of the past - this is one of the areas where Scorpio energy, in its shadow form, can be stagnant, but with Key 13 we see the true beginning of karmic discharge - absolving that which may have been keeping us tethered to what we have been meaning to surrender. In Key 13’s journey, we can figuratively confront and overcome the fear of death. This is the key of changes, and the portals it opens often lead us to ‘leveling up’ and mastery. Like the ascent of the Phoenix or the serpent, which is also often used to symbolize Key 13 or Scorpio, the energy motion is up and central, moving us into our supreme center. Elderberries is one of the main ingredients here, as well as one who has been regarded as an ally for deaths, literal and figurative. In the Middle Ages, Celtic druids used Elder wood to make flutes for communicating with the souls of the dead. In Austria and the north of England, people would leave elder cuttings on graves. The dark color of the berry also gives hint of Elderberry’s antioxidant potential, making them an effective medicine for eliminating dead and obstructive cellular information from the bloodstream. Nettle root fortifies immune system supporting role that this berry is most well known for. Nettle root is at once associated with Mars (Scorpio’s ruler) and the stinging aspect of Nettle makes them one for really cutting cords with old forms that no longer serve us.
