the story:
The Hebrew letter Resh corresponds to The Sun card. Resh means head, and in this part of the tarot, it indicates the face as opposed to the back of the head — thus, Key 19 is directly connected to recognition and other forms of enlightenment. Moreover, the correspondence between The Sun and the head speaks to this card’s association with the beginning of things — we even see this represented in the numerical resonance of 19 being ‘reduced’ to 1, but even more so when seeing 1 and 9 separately, we see two entities holistic in their own right and thus capable of both being 1, all the same. Key 19 enlightens us by giving us direct and clear signaling; Like the facial expressions which can reveal so much about those we are communicating with, including self, Key 19 offers us distinct and perceivable indications of what we are creating, encountering, and experiencing. With The Sun, we find light within the dark and our vision opens in all environments of our potentials. In pathworking, The Sun card is used to open doors to the ancient lodges and mystery schools with all of their magickal and ritual tools and techniques. The sparrowhawk, an ancient solar symbol, is a bird of prey which can teach us a lot about the control and speed by which opportunities can be seized. The plants used to formulate this key are as bright and brightening as The Sun which governs it. Chamomile and Goldenrod flowers, showing a clear connection to the sun with their yellow appearance, are distinct in their work within the sinuses and the upper respiratory tract, helping to clear any congestion that could be occluding the visions and obstructing perception. Chamomile also treats the stomach and helps to clear it of any stagnation — the stomach is another solar portal within the body. Goldenrod is an ally used for the upper body but also for the middle and lower body. Goldenrod has been used for everything from treating joint pain to addressing UTIs and kidney and bladder infections. Working within the water meridians of the body, Goldenrod stabilizes the water in the body. Furthermore, in targeting and treating the organ meridian (kidneys/bladder) which connects to reproduction, Goldenrod proves supportive for creatives who draw from those reserves and their Jing essence. Moringa is one that brightens both the Jing and the Chi, serving as a medicine to reverse the effects of time and experience on the body and spirit. Moringa is particularly nutrient-dense, so they assist the energizing of the body to match the level of physical vitality that Key 19 simultaneously calls for and promises. Gotu kola and Ginger root both boost circulation of blood to the brain, so they are true aids in this excursion into light. Allies like Ginger and Star Anise are paired to provide antifungal and antiparasitic support, ensuring that the initiatives we move forward in with Key 19 do not meet inactivity or interruption from parasitic entities. When fears of failure or even ego-centricism threaten your progress, Key 19 resounds as preventative and curative measure. The Sun, in all its brilliance, promises us much alignment with our own inner prophecies and inspiration through insight into alchemical transformation.
