Update 2/27/21: Flying ointments will begin to ship on 3/25/21.
The Cojobana seeds for this ointment were gifted to me by my grandfather. It is with my ancestors’ permission that I share this medicine, so please use with reverence, mindfulness, and respect for the offering. In Kiskeya (commonly known as the Dominican Republic/Haiti) where my family is from, Cojobana seeds are ground as used as snuff in vision quest ceremonies for communion with other nature spirits, ancestral guides, and beings of the underworld and within the oversoul. Cojobana seeds, when inhaled, promote hallucinations that expand the perception beyond what is readily present for the naked eye. When applied topically, they promote a relaxation of the surface senses, so that the acute sensible faculties come to the forefront and enable you to sense the subtleties and perceive what may otherwise be missed by the more ‘topical’ sensations. Cojobana in combination with Altamisa (Mugwort) has also been used as unguento in my family for the relief of pain. The plant of Cojobana seeds is considered sacred to the indigenous peoples of the island. It is in the same family as Tamarind, which produces a beloved seeded fruitpulp, and Mimosa, whose flowers enchant and can be used in nourishing and supportive medicine alongside the bark. Mandrake and Mugwort are two herbs often found in flying ointments and which further augment the effects of Cojobana. The flowers of Mandrake have been considered sacred offerings to both gods and the dead. With this, they can be effective as an invoking element for both our ancestors and divine guides. Mandrake is also magickally used for love, fertility, wealth, and sex magick. This ally is one that has strong Venusian influence with Saturnian and Neptunian under and overtones - their love magick is catalyzed through enabling a shift in consciousness, an expansion in imagination, and the ability to master movement through time in the mind. Mandrake, like other allies in this flying ointment such as Blue Lotus flowers, can help to enhance psychic awareness and ease of prophetic vision. The scent of Mandrake, being one of the Nightshade family (which includes peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants, etc), is said to deter evil entities and vampiric forces, making them an ideal protective ally. Blue Lotus also furthers the aphrodisiac potential of this unguento, and with Vervain, any tensions that may disrupt the flow and fluidity of sexual and ecstatic expression surely dissipate. This Indigenous Flying Ointment can be called such because all of the allies present here have use with roots that can be traced back to indigenous and ancient communities. The ancestral force that propels the power in this is one that is offered by ancestors both having (had) human form and not. This one is for holy communion with source, self, and the wide web of dancing, entrancing spirits.
