Spring / Summer Flowers and Berries Drink: Chamomile & Strawberry Latté (February Recipe)

This is a recipe that I tend to prepare with roses or rosewater and strawberry, but since I am currently out of roses and rosewater, I am using chamomile who has properties that support healthy gut bacteria. (I did add Rose Flower Essence + Love Conjure Essence to this). I love the latté as both an early rising or late evening drink. There is versatility in how exactly this can be prepared: one can make an infusion and use it as the water, or one can blend the flowers in the blender with the other ingredients. For this recipe, I have made an infusion with chamomile and hawthorn, and I also blended a bit of chamomile in with the oats and other ingredients. Hawthorn is exceptional for heart health and, like chamomile, benefits digestive processes. The latté can be enjoyed an hour or two after or before meals to promote proper nutrient assimilation. I also offer some to my elders and ancestors as chamomile is a plant that has been with us for many generations. It is an easy to make drink which can (and should, but I’m not going to tell you what to do, haha) be shared with loved ones.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of water

  • ½ cup of oats

  • 2-3 tablespoons of honey,

    maple syrup, or coconut sugar

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • Cinnamon to taste

  • Black cardamom to taste

  • 1 cup of strawberries

  • ¼ to ⅓ cup of rose,

    chamomile, or hawthorn flowers

  • ¼ teaspoon pink salt

To prepare:

  1. Before the preparation of the latté, you may want to soak the oats for a couple of hours. This is not absolutely necessary.

  2. You can also make an infusion overnight the day before you make this recipe. Infuse 1-2 tablespoons of roses, chamomile, and hawthorn flowers in 3-4 cups of water.

  3. In a blender, combine oats, 3 cups of water/infusion, and salt. Blend on high until oats are well-liquified.

  4. Strain and pour back into the blender.

  5. Add the other ingredients into strained mylk.

  6. Blend on high again. Strain again.

  7. Serve over ice or gently warmed. Garnish with roses or chamomile for beauty.
